都内の路上で、葛西総合病院の院長・葛西芳樹（要潤）が乗った高級車が襲われた。狙われたのは、アメリカの野球リーグで本塁打記録を塗り替えた鷹山直斗選手の記念ボール、その落札額は何と500万ドル。葛西院長の証言によると、犯人は4人組で動物の覆面をかぶっていたらしい。現場に駆け付けた警視庁特別捜査対策室 の室長・佐久間凌（渡部篤郎）は、その手口から、国際窃盗団『イエローパンサー』の犯行だと推測する。

都内のリサーチ会社に勤めていた栗田凛（岡崎紗絵）は、大手代理店との会議で正義感からアンケートデータの改ざんを断ったことを理由に、会社をクビになる。その夜、レストランバーでヤケ酒する凛の隣で美女を口説いている男がいた。彼の名は、天音蓮（玉木宏）。天音は鮮やかに美女を口説き落とし、二人で店を出ようとした瞬間、酒グセの悪い凛に絡まれ微妙な雰囲気に。そのまま凛は寝落ちしてしまい、結局美女と一夜を共にできなかった天音は「何なんだよ、コイツ…」とため息をつく。

翌朝、凛は見知らぬオフィスで目を覚ました。そこは、深山俊雄（小手伸也）が経営する「深山リサーチ」という保険調査の会社だった。どうやら変わった保険調査を専門としているらしく、天音はここに勤める調査員のようだ。とそこに、オリエント保険の損害調査部・部長の沢木孝雄（野間口徹）がやって来る。聞くと、例の盗まれた鷹山選手の記念ボールには多額の保険金が掛けられていたというのだ。支払額は1億円。1円たりとも保険金を支払いたくないドケチな沢木からのミッションは「事件の裏を調べて記念ボールを取り戻すこと」。依頼を請け負い、調査に向かおうとする天音に、凛は仕事を手伝わせてほしいと頼み込むが一蹴されてしまう。「うちは調査に手段を選ばない。常識もコンプラもない。これまでに何人もの新人が逃げてった」と。しかし、真実を追求する〈保険調査〉という仕事をやってみたいと食い下がる凛は、「何でもやります！」と天音にすがりつく。
「1分で支度しろ」——。天音が凛にそう告げると、二人は被害者の葛西芳樹のもとへと向かう。その道中で入院患者の少年とキャッチボールをして遊ぶ医師・葛西祐二（風間俊介）を目撃する…。

On a Tokyo street, the luxury car carrying Kasai Yoshiki (Kaname Jun), director of Kasai General Hospital, is attacked. The target is a commemorative baseball of Takayama Naoto, who broke the home run record in the American baseball league, and the winning bid is a whopping $5 million. According to Kasai's testimony, the perpetrators are a group of four people wearing animal masks. Ryo Sakuma (Watabe Atsuro), head of the Metropolitan Police Department's Special Investigation Unit, rushes to the scene and, based on the method used, deduces that the crime was the work of the international theft gang "Yellow Panther."

Rin Kurita (Sae Okazaki), who worked at a research company in Tokyo, was fired after refusing to falsify survey data during a meeting with a major agency out of a sense of justice. That night, while drinking to drown her sorrows at a restaurant bar, a man was next to her, flirting with a beautiful woman. His name was Ren Amane (Hiroshi Tamaki). Amane successfully wooed her, and just as the two were about to leave the bar, Rin, who has a heavy drinking habit, approached him, creating an awkward atmosphere. Rin fell asleep, and Amane, who ended up not spending the night with the beautiful woman, sighed, "What's wrong with this guy...?"

The next morning, Rin wakes up in an unfamiliar office.
It's Miyama Research, an insurance investigation company run by Miyama Toshio (Kote Shinya). It seems they specialize in unusual insurance investigations, and Amane is an investigator there.
Then, Sawaki Takao (Nomaguchi Toru), the head of Orient Insurance's claims investigation department, arrives. He learns that the stolen Takayama commemorative baseball was insured for a large sum of 100 million yen. Sawaki, a stingy man who doesn't want to pay even a single yen in insurance, gives him a mission: "Investigate the truth behind the incident and recover the commemorative ball.
" Amane accepts the request and heads off to investigate, but Rin begs to help, but is flatly rejected. "We don't skimp on the means when it comes to investigations. We have no common sense or compliance.
So many new recruits have run away before," he says.
But Rin insists on trying her hand at insurance investigations, a job that pursues the truth, and clings to Amane, saying, "I'll do anything!"
"Get ready in one minute," Amane tells Rin, and the two head to the victim, Kasai Yoshiki's home. Along the way, they witness doctor Kasai Yuji (Kazama Shunsuke) playing catch with a young hospitalized patient...
